About the Author

Jamar Jones is Chief Information Officer at a North Carolina public institution, where he brings over 30 years of IT experience and 15 years in leadership to every challenge. A military brat who learned resilience early, Jamar’s journey stretches from working the counter at Burger King to earning seven business awards, from sales to early tech adoption, and from church deacon to motivator and mentor.

He has spent years serving as a church deacon, mentoring young talent, and motivating others to reach their potential. As intake chairman for Kappa Alpha Psi, he has shaped future leaders, just as he does as an adjunct networking professor and a longtime AAU basketball coach. Jamar is also a kidney transplant recipient, giving him a unique perspective on gratitude and perseverance.

Jamar holds a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Saint Augustine’s University and an MBA from UNC Wilmington. He is PMP and CGCIO certified, a Saint Augustine’s University Hall of Fame inductee, and a CIAA conference champion. Across every chapter, whether leading high-performing teams, supporting his family in Norfolk, Virginia, or mentoring the next generation, Jamar leads with faith, humility, and a passion for helping others grow.

He wrote this book as a guide, a source of motivation, and a bit of inspiration for anyone looking to become a leader, or for those already in their first years of leadership and still finding their way. It is also his way of documenting the lessons learned and progress made throughout his time in IT. Jamar genuinely hopes his story and these lessons will help anyone traveling down the same road.

Above all, he remains grateful every day for the work he gets to do, the people he serves, and the chance to make a difference, one connection at a time.
