Further down the bowl I detected a pine taste which was not bad. Im very impressed. Its almost a single note experience. moreover all this blend dont heat the bowl and your smoke are warm during all the time. Another great C&D english. A real treasure, imho, and a must-try for those who appreciate latakia-heavy blends. And for the most part, it is. It's not so much of that "campfire" Latakia taste as it is that mossy, damp, woody, nature-like taste. Tin had almost exactly 3 years of age on it and yielded a latakia smoke that had all of the finer points of smoothness, mellow, consistent in flavor and no rough spots. I even find myself occasionaly inhaling this, something I rarely ever do when smoking a pipe. A few more than average relights are required and that is okay with me. HO-LEEE SMOKES, BATMAN!!! Though not similar in taste, its like nightcap, in the sense of a heavy desert like tobacco, or your last smoke of the day. I was expecting it to be one dimensional, but while not complex, it's not boring either. The flavor is fairly monotone, and limited to the Latakia. To give it a fare test, I smoked Pirate Kake for almost a week. I love it. Not bad, just different. Just yesterday I had some Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels, and I immediately thought of those when I emblazoned a bowl of Pirate Kake for the first time (Buttery smooth caramels, drenched in Belgian dark chocolate, then sprinkled with crunchy rock salt from the Dead Sea). Go figure. I enjoy the honey like notes with light puffing. Th is is hands-down the Best smoke I have ever had!! The oriental is noted early on until about mid bowl and then its pretty much the lat that steals the show in pirate kake a very smoky campfire blend. This is probablly one of the smoothest blends despite it's overall strength there is. I enjoy a good Balkan or English blend, but not this much Latakia. But Pirate Kake is definitely in that ball park IMHO. I like this so much! This was fine until I hit midbowl and quite honestly grew tired of it. Latakia heaven on earth. No less than 70% of the dark smokey leaf goes into this blend, an amazing amount. This is not really shocking seeing as the blend contains 75% latakia. The aftertaste is also delightful as the smoke and peat keep going after the pipe is done. This is primo condemental that is extremely smooth and creamy with smoke so thick you can eat it. Initial Flavor: Latakia! Well this is not one of them. I thought that such a high volume of Latakia would overpower the blend but not so. ok, campfire and dead trees works for me, too. This is a good tobacco. I was also surprised at the fact that I got a little bit of complexity out of this blend. This, of course, changes the flavour and smoking experience. This review will be simple. The latakia here overwhelms this blend. The room note is smokey and sweet all around a amazing smoke. This is exactly what I look for in a latakia blend. The strength level is just shy of the center of medium to full. I packed the bottom half of the bowl very loosely, as usual. I got hints of this flavor throughout the bowl and I must say, I like it! The smoke itself is flatter than Kansas. This blend is GREAT! Still great stuff, but only for once in awhile, like after a charred steak dinner, or for when the urge for something immense and overpowering is desired. I find this to be quite comparable to Penzance. no joke. I got a one ounce sample, and loved the look of it: brownie-like cake (ok, a brownie left out in the sun!) You get a decent cross section of the blend in the first third of the bowl after lighting up. I had it in a plastic bag that was inside a bail jar. The moisture is perfect, you can put it directly in the bowl or can leave it to dry as long as you wish. The Krumble Kake's dark, and very easy to fluff and crumble, in fact, a large proportion has already crumbled in the pouch (I bought bulk). It can be a bit tough to get lit though. I don't smoke pirate kake very often but a few times a month I do get a CRAVING for it, and it always delivers. It was a suicide. On the other side of the coin; how can you suggest balance as a blender with a 70% +lat bomb? Not an all day smoke but one that we'll take you to Latakia heaven. Opening the tin, I receive a lovely aroma of Latakia and that's about it and it is plenty. Im gonna go pack some mor e and have another bowl. It isn't a very sophisticated, subtle or multidimensional tobacco, and it isn't suited for all-day consumption (in spite of the relatively low nicotine content). 56g tin. It reminds of the intensity of Old Ironsides, but in my opinion it is slightly less pleasant. Highly recommend with the caveat that you like a Lat bomb.
